Rewarding Award Plaques
As a kid, one of the things we all loved to do was blag. This backfired on me though because of my addiction to fame and attention. My dad said I caught the blag bug at birth, but he didn't want me to become a grown up like him who is always fighting for his awards. My dad said only losers argue about their awards, so it's better for me not to share my wins.
"Crap Dad - I was sharing my awards with you all along." I told him as he came in to show me his new plaque. He's had an office in the house for years, and kept having his awards replaced by plastic things that you hang on the wall.
"Not this time Boss - check this out." He handed me a small box with a number on it, and then folded together to reveal a shiny gold plaque with hand-written words on it. It said: Mini-Me Award Plaque - Awarded by "Dad".
He laughed, and we both looked at our new award. My dad is over 6 feet tall, but less than half the weight of me. I don't think he'd be too happy with his new weight though! He put the large award on our office wall, but I took the small one and stuck it in my pocket as I went to answer an urgent call.
"Boss, you know what this means?"
"What?"
"Well there's only one way to do things here at I-am-too-cool-to-have-an-office HQ - so I've just ordered you a bigger trophy." We both stood outside his office as the delivery guy wheeled in a giant Shrinking Award (real name unknown). My dad looked confused for a second, but then was delighted. "Oh come on - we're not thick. If we can't be funny, why bother?"
As the delivery guy left, my dad looked at me. "Hey - you didn't give me one of those yet, so stop standing there and get me a BIG one now."
I laughed and went for a cup of tea. I guess it's true what they say about your kids growing up to be taller than you.
Title: The Most Embarrassing Dad In The World - 3D Glasses Edition!
Artist: Lee Jennings (Brother-in-law)
I was hoping to get out of showing you this award from my brother-in-law Lee Jennings this week - but I just couldn't keep it hidden any longer. As you know, my son has a bit of a problem with the 'third dimension' so I thought it would be funny to give him something based on his favourite TV show SpongeBob SquarePants . You may recall from previous blogs that I am a great fan of the show, and have even appeared with Ray Rental Shop owner Terry Gilliam in an episode. My son had been asking for a SpongeBob award for some time, but it was always out of my budget - until now.
I'll show you how much my budget has improved then!
The model is made from 2mm glass tubing and is about 5 inches tall. It's not quite as good as the real thing, but I think it's still pretty funny. Lee told me he'd been planning to make it since my son had first requested it - I didn't know whether to feel flattered or angry!
The award was created by Lee in his free time, and it's the result of many hours of work. He's a busy man, and a talented model-maker - I'm very grateful for his talent. This is certainly one of the most embarrassing awards I've ever had.
I don't think my son will love it though - I tried showing him but he just said "That's not SpongeBob Dad." Oh well...
Thanks Lee - I really appreciate it!

Title: Michael Jackson Lunch Box
Artist: Terry Gilliam (Ray Rentals Shop Owner)
You may have seen this before if you follow me on Facebook, but this latest piece of award art is still fresh in my mind so I thought I'd share it with you guys too. It was created by Terry Gilliam, the owner of Ray Rental Shop that appeared in an episode of Cartoon Network's animated series 'SpongeBob SquarePants'. He's actually a really nice guy - I met him on my last visit to London.
He was making a commercial for Ray Rental Shop when the editing team asked him to make a short video of SpongeBob. He spent about 2 hours recording himself just talking about SpongeBob, and had no idea that this video would be used in a TV commercial for the company he works for. He didn't even get paid! Trust me guys - he's a great guy who will give you the shirt off his back!
Anyway - today we have another story from Terry Gilliam which will make you laugh...
Conclusion
So there you have it, a few of my favourite awards from the last few months. I'm pretty sure there are some other winners out there - if you have a great new award send it over to us and we'll add it to our collection.
If you're looking for something to make someone laugh, or something to make them smile - maybe it's not so easy to take a photo of. Relax! You can always use any of our 3D printed awards as a gift.
