 Scam Expose: W. G. Hill

After his 3-week vacation, the urgent call from his boss surprised him at the city central bus terminal. He desperately tried to answer the call but couldn't get through in time. He forgot to switch on the airplane mode and his boss was clearly pissed off!

"Our competitor is a big rival of ours. But, we are the best known in this region. We are the biggest on the eastern seaboard. However, in the last month, they have made a serious dent in our revenue. We've been dreaming of displacing the number 2 in the region, the company whose logo is on your left shoulder, ever since the start of our business operations. They have grown over the years and basically taken over number 2. Now they are headed straight towards number one. What do you think is the best tactic to get them back?" his boss asked.

"This is a blue ocean and pretty much untapped. We probably are still in the best position to gain some or most of the business. Please help. We have always envied the number 2 in this region and we still don't know of their actual size. Let us get their numbers so we can deviate from our normal course of action." he said to his boss .

"Wait a minute. Have you heard of this scam? There is a company on the other side of the country with the same name [add union]. I think we should contact them and see what they have discovered. If they get away with it, then we can follow the same steps. But, what they are doing may be illegal. Let's not try that!" his boss said.

"Let's send a letter to the president there. To detail out our strategy. Do you have their contact details?" he asked his boss.

"I was about to send a letter to them with a one week deadline, but then I got your call and I forgot about the letter. Let me get the address of the main offices. There, I'll find their resident agent or the other contact details. The address must be in the official documents, yes?" his boss asked.

The boss got back to his desk and searched on the company website. He had just one week to destroy their business. Their biggest competitor had just paused their marketing campaign and also took a holiday. It didn't take more than a few minutes to get the address and other contacts. His boss searched through the web and found out that it is in fact a victim. It had been a victim of some scam and was also on the verge of closing. It had nothing to do with the real company's intentions. His boss made his case to his boss. The boss said, "I agree but I am not sure if you know where I work. We should call in help from one of the departments in the city."

"Yes, how about giving us some support from one of the departments? One of the most trusted people has already been assigned there. They might know more about them. Also, the guy is an expert in electrical and engineering. If necessary, he can ask for some more help from the engineering department."

The guy on the other side had written a book on project management and is an author to a number of company training programs. He knows how to get things done. His boss had been a part of a social event with him and they were also good friends. He wrote a letter to ask him to come to the meeting. Later, in the afternoon, his assistant called him up to arrange an appointment with the other boss.

"Hi, yes, good to talk and thanks for the help in finding the scam. They are surprisingly good. We have traced them to some office in another town. The police have already been informed. But I still have a lot of questions about the guys. They are obviously the best at what they do. But, I am sure that once we get their number, we can find out their strategy. Let's first talk about their way of doing things and what we can do to get them arrested." the boss said.

His assistant then asked for more information.

"Yes we can get their company's number having the name, if you remember it. Also, we can utilize their contacts. I need to ask some more questions they use. I'm also interested to learn more about them. I'd like to know more about the top-notch. We also use the residents agent. I just want to know more about this company because they are clearly good at what they do. I want to know what's their strategy, their weaknesses and so on" he said.

A few days later, his boss had arranged a meeting with the resident agent of their competitor. In the afternoon, his boss was escorted to the boss's place for tea and discussion.

Conclusion

The forces went head to head in a war and won. The architect had now lost his job and was asked to leave in a huff. He had just moved to the country for his assignment. The troops had beat the rival by over 60% in the month of October. They were now up to the 73% mark in November. With the enemies having lost their morale, they were now in a line of communication with the boss.

The lawyers had gone over the contracts and the agreement of employing the architect.
