Starting A Business: Sole Proprietor Or Corporation?

A sole proprietor simply has a business that is legally a personal asset. The owner of the business is not protected against financial losses by the corporation and owes taxes on all profits. Corporations, in contrast to sole proprietorships, are separate legal entities that exist independently from their owners, which means they're liable for taxes and creditors cannot go after their owner's personal assets as payment if the company goes bankrupt.

There are pros and cons to both types of businesses; consult your accountant before making a final decision about what type of entity you want to form for your new enterprise!
