Stop Complaining And Make A Change
If you’re anything like me, you probably spend a lot of time complaining.
Complaining about the weather, about your lot in life, about how everything is working out for everyone but you. Being stuck in a rut is fine; being sorry that it's happened to you and not doing anything to change the situation is where the problem lies. It's not like there are so many things that can be done with our imaginations that we get through looking at ourselves with rose-tinted glasses and think “everything will be okay”. We know things aren't okay right now or even weeks into the future; we're just convincing ourselves they will be eventually. If you want to stop complaining, you need to think about what you're wishing for in life.
Goals are something we all talk about but few actually put in the hard work they need to become something. Maybe it's because we set them so high that we don't feel like they're reachable right now. That's fine, maybe if you're older, you've got time to reach the goals that seem unattainable right now. The problem I see with people is that they do have goals and aspirations yet they still complain a lot.
So what is the best way to push yourself to reach that goal? In my opinion, it's not by trying to set new goals. It's by looking at something you're unhappy with and deciding that's a goal you want to reach. The problem is when we set our sights on something, it makes us feel better about ourselves and how we've dealt with some of the situations in life so far. That's the point here; instead of complaining, start thinking about things you're unhappy about and then decide (with little encouragement from others) that's a target for your improvement.
It requires a lot more thought than just complaining and this is where people can get stuck because they don't think things through properly. The first step is to stop seeing everything in black and white; there's grey for everyone, even you. Being unhappy with yourself isn't a good thing; it means you're not happy with the way things are right now. You might feel better if you just make everything better but, instead of complaining about what's wrong in life, think about what's right.
Making these changes will help a great deal if you do so because they help you start thinking positively about yourself which is the first step in improving your situation and breaking free from your current position.
The next step would be to take action, not just talk about it or complain about how things could be better. It doesn't matter what you do; from joining a gym to starting a blog, just taking action will make the changes you want more realistic. You'll help yourself by putting in any effort because you'll be making sure it works. It's a shame to hear something's wrong and then see that person just complain about it without doing anything or at least try something. That’s when people start to see themselves as victims and that’s when there’s no getting out of the rut.
The last step is to reward yourself for everything good that you do for yourself. Make sure you're always trying something new and reward yourself for everything you manage to accomplish. This might seem like a way to cheat the system but it's not; making sure that you're rewarding yourself for the small things, like getting a toothbrush, will help so much because you'll start to see there's no point in complaining or feeling sorry for yourself because you're keeping on top of things.
We’re all prone to complaining from time to time but if that doesn’t change, it can ruin everything. In this article, I discussed how we can stop our complaining by setting goals for ourselves and then rewarding ourselves for doing well. If you're unhappy with your situation, think about what you can do to change it and then do it. All I ask is that you give this a try. I know that making the changes that will help us is a difficult job but we have to start somewhere.
