Title: Internet Marketing Help with HostGator Web Hosting
HostGator is one of the most popular website hosts in the web hosting industry. We have been using HostGator for years and we have found their service very reliable and affordable. Their customer support team is also very helpful when it comes to answering specific questions about sites hosted with them.
During my time with HostGator I have come across several issues that required some help to resolve. I use the HostGator client control panel to manage most of my sites but there are times when I wished there was a simple way to perform an easy task such as changing the email address on a site without the need of having to head over to each server and perform this task individually.
My problem was solved when I came across a ticket in HostGator's support system which listed an upgrade for their client control panel called 'Simple Client Control'. This simple upgrade allowed me to easily change all of my host's email addresses through my account without needing code, FTP access, or any other complicated procedures.
If you have any questions about HostGator, I recommend that you take a look at their Web Hosting Control Panel in the HostGator support forums, as they have a very helpful FAQ section of topics that should speed up your learning curve.
Title: Simple Client Control Basic Version Upgrade for HostGator Web Hosting Accounts
I've successfully integrated Simple Client Control version 2.0 into all my new and existing HostGator web hosting accounts (8/10). My new accounts are now set to the basic version with a single php email address which is sufficient for my needs. However, I would also like to be able to enable an unlimited number of Domain Aliases. The FAQ states:
"Will this effect my website if I enable the free version?
Your website and files are not affected in any way. Only new emails will be added to your account."
My questions is, "Does the basic version enable Domain Aliases?" If not, what would be the process for upgrading to enable Domain Aliases? Can someone provide me with detailed step-by-step instructions on how they upgraded their HostGator account while still keeping the single php email address? I'm open to purchasing a domain name (if needed) and I also have many other web hosting accounts with other hosts that can serve as a test bed. Thanks in advance for your time.
Title: Using the HostGator Control Panel for Domain Registration
I decided to register two new domains with HostGator so I could have them hosted in my current account. I did not want to transfer-in a domain that was already registered elsewhere and then setup another website from scratch. I wanted to simply change the DNS settings of an existing website and make it use a domain that is registered with my host. Unfortunately, this is not possible with the default HostGator Control Panel. You can only use their DNS management settings if the domain you are using is hosted somewhere other than your current host.
The HostGator Control Panel provides you with DNS settings that you can use to point your domain name to a new IP address. This lets you move your existing website from one hosting provider to another while keeping your domain name intact. If you want to change the DNS settings of an already registered domain then you will need an FTP client and access to the Domain Name Records (DNR) of your host. The HostGator Control Panel is not able to modify these records for a domain hosted elsewhere so if this is what you are looking for, then check out my previous article on how to do this by using an FTP client.
HostGator also offers a 'Simple Client Control' version that gives you access to several useful features. One of these features is DNS management settings where you can change the DNS settings of any or all of your domains hosted elsewhere. This is one feature though that I decided not to use because it only supports one domain at the time and I have thousands of sites registered with my HostGator account. I need access to all my domains and domain records in one place so that I can easily update them as needed.
Another option for controlling your website's DNS settings is Namecheap Web Hosting, which allows you to register, transfer-in, manage, and point domains through their convenient Domain Manager feature in their Control Panel.
Conclusion
These are just some of the issues that I have encountered personally and I have identified a solution for them. I do not pretend to be an expert on HostGator or other hosting companies but hopefully these articles can provide you with a good starting point for solving your own issues.
