Top 6 Reasons You Need a Website
With the amount of online content that goes viral on a daily basis, it is important to have your own website. Whether you are looking for a personal website or are planning on joining an e-commerce start up, this article will highlight some key reasons why you need a website.
First, having your own personal site can be used as portfolio or resume. Just like how your LinkedIn or Facebook page is your "online resume," you can create a web page to show off your digital skills, such as web development and photography, or list of references. Maybe you want to start a blog, so you can use the site as a portfolio. Maybe you want to start an online store (e-commerce) so you can use the site as a resume for potential employees.
In addition, having an online presence will allow potential customers to find you more easily. Create content that is relevant to your niche and then share with social media platforms such as Twitter and LinkedIn. For example, if you have a passion for motorcycles, write about the experience of building and maintaining your own bike or the importance of taking care of your motorcycle.
Another important reason to have an online presence is that it gives you an opportunity to interact with potential customers. Posting your latest blog post on Reddit (a social news site) can give you a bit of exposure, but having a site with more substantial content can help companies that are searching for web designers or web developers to contact you directly.
If you want to start a business and have no idea what type of website would best fit into your market niche, send some content to sites like search engine optimization company Moz . They will view your site and comment on what works and what doesn't.
Next, having an online presence will allow you to give back to the community, which can increase your reputation within the community. For example, if you want to show off your photography skills, why not create a blog or a website where people can see your pictures? This way other photographers can view your works and hire you for an event or for professional images. Another example is if you are running for public office, creating a personal website can help you connect with voters and spread information about yourself as well as allow voters to contact you directly.
Finally, having an online presence can help your business in the long run. For example, let's say you were a graphic designer who had a website built for you by a web development company for $2500 and then the company went out of business. Now you need a new website but are not sure if you should hire another someone to build it or continue using the old one. If your site is active and has content on it, potential customers will be able to access your site through search engines and might even know about the problems the previous web developer had. Because of this customer interaction, potential customers will be more willing to hire you as opposed to someone else.
Another example is if you are selling a product. Nowadays, many big box stores sell electronics like laptops and tablets, but more recently you can also purchase electronics from Amazon . The reason why people purchase from Amazon instead of the department stores is because it is easier to search for products, there are reviews for each product, and it delivers to your doorstep. Having an online presence helps create all of these features; people can browse your blog or site because they have extra information about the products and services you offer. However, if you don't have an online presence, a website will be difficult for customers to find.
Hopefully this article gives you some ideas about how having an online presence can benefit your digital skills and your potential business.
