How to bet on the SuperBowl
Super Bowl Sunday is fast approaching and with it comes the opportunity to make a lot of easy money. The last Super Bowl was watched by 111.3 million viewers, so there should be no shortage of people trying to cash out on this historic day. What you may not know is that the odds are in your favor if you watch and bet accordingly.
People will be watching their favorite NFL team all day long, which means they'll likely be doing most of their betting before kickoff! And because football fans are notoriously slow at making decisions, it's no surprise that NFL teams have historically been money-making machines on this day.
The best example of this came in 2007 when the Giants beat the Patriots in a shocker. The odds moved from 3-2 to 11-4, but it was still good enough to provide an easy payday for anyone who bet on New York. The same happened two years later when the Packers beat the Steelers for their first Super Bowl victory since 1997 - and despite being a huge underdog, the Packers provided a whopping $0.60 profit on every $1 bet if you backed them!.
With all of that in mind, it's no surprise that betting on early action is such a great way to cash out during this time of year. The Patriots were 6.5-point favorites in the first half of last year's game, yet still lost - a fact that was brought to light by oddsmakers afterward. They had been betting on New England too!
Of course, no matter what the odds say, it'll still take some money to get you started. Fortunately, we have three different methods for you to use when betting on the SuperBowl and to help you cover your bets:
1) Bet on it! Unfortunately for those of you who don't like betting with any edge, this is simply a fact of life.
2) Play Parlay Cards (if you're good enough to be accepted to do so). Parlays are a great way for new bettors to make quick money. If you're lucky, you can earn hundreds of dollars in just a few hours! However, be warned that betting with your own money and using your credit card are illegal.
3) Bet with a bookmaker. Bookmakers have the advantage of being able to offer free money and the ability to bet on any player on your roster and/or even all 28 teams. It may take some time to find a good one, but it's well worth the effort - especially if you want parlay cards or don't want to risk your own money.
Remember:
1) All Super Bowl bets are subject to NFL-style blackouts. If you're betting online, you'll have to add your NFL blackout restrictions (in most cases, up to six games) to your team's total. You can always call the bookmakers and ask for their help with this process. For example, if you want to bet on the Titans - who are not available due to a black out - and want to cover your six games, it will take $4.60 towards the Titans' $20 win total in order for them to be placed in your account. If they aren't in there, then your team is automatically covered.
2) The Nationals and the Jets are not available for betting because of their game against each other on Sunday.
3) The game itself is usually around $300 to $400 at most places, so make sure you have enough money. Oddsmakers suggest finding a sportsbook that is at least offering -110 odds on your team, so that you can enjoy a nice little 5-5 profit (if you win). Remember: It only takes $150 to win this bet.
4) Be aware that most NFL parlay cards are illegal, but there are a few exceptions. These include bets on the main game (underdog wins outright) or blind betting (tied games). A lot of sportsbooks will not accept any sports wagering at all, so make sure you're playing within the rules.
5) You can always check out the game at home! If you have a good TV and some friends who know some football to help you, it's definitely worth doing. You won't get all of the action, but when it comes to NFL football games - never take your chances with just one source.
Super Bowl Sunday isn't just another day. Instead, it's the one day of the year where you can easily make a lot of extra cash with hardly any effort. Just remember:
- Bet on early action the entire week; (if you're not sure where to start, visit our NFL Odds page)
- Use a bookmaker to help you cover your bets; and
- Enjoy! It's just as easy - if not easier - than watching TV. And you know what they say: The more comfortable you are, the more money you can make! Good luck out there! [END OF ARTICLE] A few comments...
1) Parlays are illegal in most states. Blackjack and craps are the only two legal parlay options for the average citizen.
2) Not sure why he has to say "Never take your chances with one source" when it's usually the bookie not oddsmakers who are caught doing multi-line betting, meaning they're betting on both sides of a game. (Take advantage of this!)
3) There is no 3) option! Once you give your money to a bookmaker, you're outta luck! That's why we recommend bettors sign up for multiple sportsbooks as soon as possible to diversify their risk.
