How to Lower Your Auto Insurance Premiums

Auto insurance is one of the most common expenses for people across the country. The cost of auto insurance varies based on many factors such as your age, drivers license record, and marital status. It can be hard to know where to start when looking for ways to lower your auto insurance premiums.

I’ve compiled some tips and tricks that can help you do just that:

-Check with your current insurer about discounts offered based on specific criteria (e.g., safe driving) or services provided by you (e.g., collision coverage).

-If you have a good driving record, check with your current insurer to determine if they insure older drivers and which discounts they offer.

-Consider purchasing additional coverage (e.g., uninsured motorists or uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage).

-If possible, purchase a policy from an insurance company that offers discounts for young drivers, the unemployed or those who have clean driving records.

-Switch to a more affordable company if your current carrier has raised your rates significantly in the past two years, or is no longer offering discounts based on certain criteria.

-Check to see if your new car qualifies you for a “new car discount.”

-Make sure that you are paying for the correct amount of auto insurance. If you have changed insurance companies, make sure that you purchase the exact level of coverage required by your state’s laws, as stated in your policy. Different types of coverage may be available with different premiums; be sure to check into all options before making any decisions.

That’s it! Those are some tips and tricks I have picked up along the way in my efforts to lower my auto insurance premium year after year.

What People Are Saying About How To Lower Your Auto Insurance Premiums

“I just finished reading How to Lower Your Auto Insurance Premiums by Tim Donahey, a man whose website I subscribe to faithfully. In this book, Tim goes step-by-step through his method of lowering your auto insurance premium without sacrificing quality service or coverage…and he manages to weave humor into each chapter along with the tips and techniques about which insurance agents don’t want you to know.”—Debbie Forrest, http://www.debbieforrest.com

“I just read a book that can save you hundreds of dollars on your auto insurance over the next year. It will take you about 30 minutes to read and it is worth the time.” —David Jackson, TheMisterMoneyShow.com

“Every insurance agent hates the idea of people reading about insurance. If you use a good agent, they will tell you to find someone else to talk to if you have any questions about your policy. The agent knows that the information in this book isn’t his job, and he won’t be paying for it. So thousands of dollars go down the drain every year as a result. This is a must read book for anyone looking to save money on their auto insurance.” —Steve Hall, http://www.frugalinsuranceagent.com/
