"Take This World... and Shove It!"
By Todd Strandberg on January 6, 2005
I love to travel. Unlike a lot of people, my life has always enabled me to take off at a moment's notice and see the world. I've been to such places as: Australia, England, Tahiti, Turkey and New Zealand (among others). So I decided that I needed a website... oh and before you ask; yes it is real: www.take-this-world-and-shove-it.com. I was interested in creating a site where people could find out how to start their own business online as well as learn some of the many tricks of the trade that would allow them to stay one step ahead of the competition. The fact that I happen to be an internet marketing expert and have been working with companies for over 14 years only enhances the value of this site.
This website is what I call a "flash-site", meaning it's designed to give people different ideas on how they can take their business online in order to take advantage of today's opportunities. I think the internet is a great place for small and large companies to reach an international market, but I do my best to give them a good kick in the pants so they can get started. And as for me... I've already been around the world, so I'm happy to give you my two cents on how to do it on your own.
My adventure with the site began with my wanting to create a permanent URL: www.take-this-world-and-shove-it.com that would go along with my email address: take_this_world_and_shove_it@hotmail.com (yes, you're seeing it right). It was really just a whim to register it, but at the same time I was thinking of creative names that would create a "buzz" with people searching on Google. The name sort of hit me. I started thinking about the expression "take this world and shove it" and I thought it would be good to make some people laugh when they visited the site. So then came along: www.take-this-world-and-shove-it.com... and then came along www.take-this-world-and-shove-it.net... and then www.takethisworldandshovelit.com ...and then ....well you get the idea. I started creating other domain extensions that would be fun to visit like www.takethisworldandshootit.com, www.take-this-worldandshoveittoyourmother.com and www.take-this-worldandshoveitontopofyourhead.com... and then I realized that these short names were in hot demand! (think about it)... so I had to stop before my wife left me for someone with a "real" job!
Over time, the site has evolved from being some kind of funny domain name into a website that is viewed by people worldwide who want to know more about starting their own business online. It's a great feeling that all the hard work over the years is finally paying off. And the best part is that I have learned so many things, seen so many places, met so many people and made so many friends along the way. Thanks for coming along for the ride... it's been a blast.
Take care,
