Industrial Safety
Industrial safety is the most important part of doing any job. Without it, there would be a huge risk of injury and even death. Here are a few things that you should know before entering an industrial environment:
- The First thing to do when entering an industrial environment is to look around and identify any possible hazards.
- Any time you change tasks, go outdoors, or enter a new area, make sure you scan the environment again for potential dangers.
- Be aware of your surroundings and if you see something dangerous like unsecured equipment or damaged flooring that needs to be fixed immediately report it to someone in charge so they can get it resolved as soon as possible.
- It is also a good idea to talk with the employees working on the spot. Sometimes you can catch an eye in the back of your head that says "My boss would fire me if he found out I let you do this!" and they will be happy to help.
- Get familiar with the people who work in this environment. Let them know how important safety is to you and give them some friendly advice about what not to do while working.
- Keep in mind that everyone in this environment could possibly be doing something life threatening, so keep a level head when it comes to things like ear protection or hand protection or other equipment that could hurt you back at home.
- When you first start working with the company where you will be doing your hands on assignment, make sure to get some training on things like how to handle difficult chemicals, how to properly use safety equipment and so on.
- If you have any questions about safety procedures you feel uncomfortable asking someone at work, call the OSHA hotline (800-321-OSHA) or talk to your state department of labor for more information.

Conclusion:
Now that you've read this, I hope you realize that most of these thoughts were not new to me. Many times I have thought about the same things about my job and I never imagined one day being in danger of something like this happening to me. I still have a lot of work left ahead of me, but I am glad that the doctors were able to save my life and they think that within the next few weeks, or months at most, I could be back at work as normal again. It was an amazing experience to get a second chance like this and everyday is still kind of hard dealing with what happened. Luckily no one got hurt but it does take its toll on you mentally as well.
