Party Your Boss Will Love
It's been a long day at the office. It's raining, it's cold, and your feet may or may not be aching from standing all day. You're set to go home, but you've got one stop left: party! Hosting an office-wide party is always popular and prone to spontaneity. It's a great way to get everyone involved and give everyone a chance to have fun. If you're looking to host your own party this year, here are some tips on how to do it right!
I. The Invitations
Decide on when, where, and excuse yourself from any prior engagements that you don't want to break (if any). You want the whole office to show up for your party, so be sure that the date and time is convenient for them.
Take the time to make some nice invitations to send out beforehand. You can include a picture of a party hat and a wide smile, with the day and time of your party listed below in bold font. It's always nice to have an idea of what you're trying to convey.
"Party your boss will love!" Should be the headline on your invitation. Not only will this catch their eye, but it also leaves them wondering what you mean by that!
For added fun and formality, you can go old school with a formal invitation sent by mail. Just be sure that everyone at the office receives one before you arrive.
II. The Party
Now that everyone knows when it is and where to go, you're ready to host your party! The theme of the party should reflect the theme of what you do. If you're in retail, try to have a "retail-themed" party. If you work in the medical field, have a medical-themed one! You get it. Come up with a fun excuse for your boss or a party volunteer to show up dressed as whoever they would be if they worked in whatever field you do. Even if they don't care that much about their job and don't plan on showing up (how dare they!) they will be curious enough to come just out of sheer curiosity.
It's nice to have a theme that you can go all-out for. If your boss isn't the type to be around during the party, you can still incorporate some funny costumes or opportunities to surprise them with surprises!
The decorations and menu are up to you! How about projector screens or a dance floor? Maybe some balloons? You get the idea. Keep it simple and fun, and don't forget to make it an excuse for everyone to come.
III. The Party Games
You don't want this party to be boring, and you definitely don't want this party to get out of control. You want to make sure that everyone has a good time, so why not make it up as you go along? Some party games that you can play with your co-workers include:
1) Pin the Tail on the Donkey - For this game, you need nothing more than a blindfold and a piece of paper. In large groups, draw a picture of a donkey with some clear tape on the wall. Then blindfold each player and have them try to pin the tail on the donkey from memory.
2) Truth or Dare - For this one, you need everyone to be comfortable enough to tell each other embarrassing information about themselves! Choose someone at random or choose people who have been talking for too long. Then, whoever it is will proceed to tell the other person a story that may or may not be true. They must decide if the story is true or not, and then must tell the next person a story about themselves.
3) Name This Object - The best way to do this game is with a large group of people. Everyone picks a random object in the room and write their own name on it. Then they must keep track of everyone else's object as they write their name on it. The last person to guess who owns the item is eliminated.
4) Music Bingo - This game is great for music lovers. Just find a song that you may or may not know and write it on 5×5 cards. Save a few for yourself to make sure that you won't be out of the game if you know all the songs! Put them in a hat and let everyone pick one at random. The first person to fill in a music bingo card wins the prize!
These are just some of the many games you can play with everyone at your office party. Be sure to have a few standby games (like truth or dare) in case someone gets bored or the party is getting too out of control. It's always best to improvise as you go along!
IV. The Party Favors
As you can see, the party favors are really up to you. You can be creative or use what you have lying around your house. The main idea here is that the favors should reflect your personality and interests. You created this party for everyone, so why not make it personal?
It's also nice to have some fun little prizes for people who participate in the most fun games during your office-wide party. You can include unique items in the party favor bag for these people! This is a great way to give everyone a nice surprise.
Now, keep in mind that you want the party to be fun and not too revealing. You don't want anyone to feel uncomfortable or come out and show off their new piercings, tattoos, or French-kissing skills. Group hug time at an office-wide party is a must!
V.
Conclusion
So it sounds like this party will be a little harder to pull off than your last one, but if you do it right, it should be hilarious and have everyone talking about how well you did! Now that you know how to put on a fun office-wide party, put your own spin on the concept. Have some fun with it and see what happens!
