 Receipt-label thermal paper launched

The thermal paper, which is free of color and wax, is sold by the meter at a price of 1.5 yuan (US$0.23) per metre in China for export markets. The company also plans to produce paper for use in books and documents, such as bank deposit slips and utility bills - all items that can be contaminated by ink from non-thermal printing processes if not handled properly after they have been printed on regular paper.

A Chinese manufacturer has launched a roll of "receipt-label" thermal paper with anti-counterfeiting measures designed to thwart counterfeiters.

Guanghua Label & Tag Co., a manufacturer of fancy paper in east China's Suzhou, Jiangsu province, started selling the thermal paper to the public earlier this month. A roll of the thermal paper measures 15 centimeters wide and 304 meters long, and is priced at 1.5 yuan (23 US cents) per meter.

"The receipt-label thermal paper has more anti-counterfeiting measures than conventional thermal papers," said Ye Bin, a manager with the company. "The paper won't be affected by water or light."

Ye said that besides large store chains, some foreign manufacturers are also interested in ordering large amounts from them.

"The thermal paper can handle high temperatures and is also better than ordinary thermal paper in terms of anti-counterfeiting measures," Ye said.

The paper doesn't contain any ink and is printed with a thermo-sensitive adhesive. A special ink, which dries at a temperature slightly higher than body temperature, is then applied onto the paper.

As soon as the receipt-label thermal paper is moved to a cooler place in room temperature or lower, the special ink will not be activated. The ink is activated only when touched by human hands.

Ye said the company plans to introduce "receipt-label" thermal paper for banks, which uses a special ink that won't be activated even when touched by humans.

The company has already received orders from ATMs and other foreign clients for large quantities of thermal paper, he said.

It is great to find such a good product and one that is so much safer than the regular thermal paper. Thanks for giving me an opportunity to try your products out.
