Reliable Life Insurance Company – Which Companies Are The Best?

Life insurance is a type of insurance coverage that protects against loss of income due to death. Most people can probably afford the lower-level "term" life insurance at relatively low rates, but it may often be the case that someone with a high salary or who owns a business may want to purchase higher level "whole" life and/or "universal" life policies.
We've done some research in an effort to find you the best company for your needs.
Liability insurance is not included in these rankings.
Below is a list of companies ranked by a combination of factors, including cost, reviews from the public (from top to bottom), and the understanding that there may be some companies which are better or worse for different personal circumstances.
The ranking is based on an average of all policies rated here on EDS. We do not accept outside advertising or sponsorship; thus we are unable to endorse any particular company. There are many "average" and hidden costs with most policies, so we urge you to read the fine print of any policies you are considering.
If you have a concern about one of these ratings, please feel free to see if there's an alternative company that will better meet your needs; or feel free to contact us and we'll do our best to further help.
We've tried to rate these in increasing order of price.
We realize that this can often be a very sensitive subject for people, but it's critical that you be honest about your health and circumstances when applying for life insurance.  You may be declined coverage or offered a policy at a higher cost if your application is not completely accurate.
Please see the Disclaimer below.
[[DISCLAIMER]]
There is no guarantee that any company will insure you at a lower rate than any of the other companies shown; or, that there would be a new policy available at the same price.** The only way to be sure that you are insured at the lowest possible rate is to ask for an actual quote from each insurance company. ** Due to state regulations, some companies may charge a different rate depending upon your state of residency; in which case you should ask about special rates for non-residents or if there is a separate "policy in force" fee (which can often be waived).  A "policy in force" can be applied for online at most companies; but please read your specific company's policies before doing so as each policy is unique. The sex of the applicant (male or female) may also affect the rate, though this varies greatly by state and is difficult to predict. For example, in some states women may actually be given a better rate on their life insurance, while men generally pay a higher premium for life insurance.  In some cases, applicants may face lower rates on their life insurance based upon their age and health. We've attempted to note these conditions in our ratings above; but we also urge you to ask all of your questions before applying for any coverage.  Please note that the companies below are rated on their price and reputation; we do not accept outside advertising or sponsorship; thus we cannot endorse any company specifically. You should also be aware of your state's regulations regarding insurance agents, as many states have strict rules about coverage and/or licensing requirements for insurance sales people. Any agent who is licensed in your state may offer you a quote from any company licensed in your state. For example, if you live in California then any California agent can offer you a quote from any company licensed to do business in California (which includes all of the companies listed below). Well, what about the companies who aren't on this list?
You're free to apply and compare quotes from other companies too. No worries! We're here to help you find the best combination of policies and coverage for your needs. You may also visit our new company comparison chart on this page which allows you to easily compare quotes from all of the companies, or use our short-cut to tell you how much life insurance you need now immediately.
I know that some people are concerned that they'll be wasting their time checking out an insurance company's website before applying for a quote; but don't worry -- we've made it very easy for you. The process of getting a quote is only one page long, which takes just 2 minutes to complete. And if you like, you'll be given the option of receiving personalized quote suggestions from us directly to your email address.
Don't worry -- we're just here to help. We are experienced in the industry and can help you find a policy that'll best meet your needs.
