Special Event and Travel Cancellation Risks
The holiday season is a special time of year. Family and friends are coming together to share the joy, peace, and love of the season. But in these times of increased congestion and heightened security at airports, even travel plans for the holidays can be a stressful concern.
In light of recent events that have led to flight cancellations during the busy period around Christmas and New Year’s Day, we want you to be aware that you might need to take precautions when traveling by air this holiday season.
In an effort to help you be prepared for a safe and successful travel season, the Transportation Security Administration has created this special section of its website, to help travelers with their Holiday Travel Guide. The guide includes helpful planning information concerning:
Additional security measures and procedures at airports during the holiday travel season;
New security measures that will be implemented during the busiest travel weeks;
Tips on how to prepare your family and friends for travel; and,
Information about special events/anniversaries that might impact your travels.
"Travellers are advised to carefully review General Aviation Security Restrictions in advance of travelling. Travelers should follow the steps described in this Traveler’s Guide, TSA web site, TSA Call Center (1-877-289-9673) and on display in Airports (Security Checkpoint Procedures).
Travellers are advised to review the following:
Carry only on your person the items listed on the Transportation Security Administration’s website. Do not bring any items that could be used as a weapon or cause harm to yourself, other individuals or property. If you have any doubt about your item's security classification, bring it to an airport security checkpoint instead. Tuck valuables away out of sight and reach into carry-on bags. Do not place carry-on bags in checked baggage. Do not bring prohibited items, including weapons—loaded or unloaded—ammunition, fireworks or flares, etc. into the security checkpoint . All such items, when discovered at a checkpoint, will result in denial of your permission to enter the secure area and/or denial of your transportation on the aircraft which is also a violation of law and may result in prosecution. Please visit TSA’s Web site for a complete list of prohibited items.
Immediately report unattended bags, packages or other materials that are out of place to airport authorities and/or airline ticket counter personnel before entering the security checkpoint. (NOTE : You are not required to report unattended bags, packages, or materials that you see AFTER you have already entered the security checkpoint.)
Travelers are advised to review their travel itinerary and carry-on luggage to ensure that there is adequate time allotted for inspection. Ensure that items are clear of any metal, including rings, and that the contents cannot be seen through them.
Travelers will encounter additional requirements at airport security checkpoints in the holiday season. A. Is there a connection between Condor Air and Google with the recent 2 plane crashes, that have occurred in the Bay Area?
B. Is it possible that someone or someones has hijacked these planes for ransom?
On September 8, 2008, a Piper PA-32R-301 aircraft registered N44HW [1] crashed on approach to the airport in Santa Rosa, California. Its pilot was killed; his passenger survived with serious injuries. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) determined that the probable cause of this accident was the pilot’s failure to maintain clearance from terrain while maneuvering at low altitude.
