The power of gratitude in finding inspiration

Have you ever felt like there is never any inspiration? We all know the feeling. It’s a crushing feeling, it’s overwhelming even. These are feelings that remind us that we are not doing enough, that we have to reach higher and further than before.

Ever felt that way? Then I wouldn’t worry about it. There is a solution for you, and it doesn’t happen overnight. It takes time to find that thing that drives you to work harder always. What inspires me is the power of gratitude, the power of gratitude in finding inspiration.

My Inspiration: Iron Man 3
I especially love the scenes in "The Avengers" where Tony Stark creates his machine to save the city from destruction by Loki and the Chitauri. After a long deliberation on building such an enormous thing, he said: "How many people have I saved with this? None." And this is what made him create his Iron Man suit to save those around him.

I see so many people watching these movies and being inspired. For me, I find more personal inspiration from Tony Stark’s own words. He builds his first Iron Man suit in "Iron Man 2". When the Ten Rings found him, he was forced to build another for them. While he was in captivity, he builds a makeshift Iron Man suit to escape his captors. He is captured by the Ten Rings again and forced to finish the suit that was started before being captive before this time making sure it had an auto-destruct sequence so if it’s tampered with or even if Tony Stark tries to use it again, it will self-destruct.

It had everything he needed to get off the ground. There was a lot of time spent on it. A lot of blood, sweat and tears were poured in that thing to make it right. I love this quote from Tony: "This suit is all I’ve got."

I have spent hours thinking about what would his life be like if he wasn’t able to create these amazing suits for others, but just created Iron Man suits so he could save himself from the Ten Rings, or just escape prison again. I think everybody loves to fantasize about being Tony Stark at times, which makes this guy so inspiring for me.

Gratitude is the Starting Point

I have learned a lot about gratitude in the past year. I don’t think I used to be very grateful at all. The hardest thing for me is to find inspiration. It has always challenged me and it has always been on my mind. This wanting to do better, to inspire people with my work, and my passion for doing this is what drives me most of the time.

Every day I try to write at least a little bit, and it’s getting better because I am learning more about writing every day. I make sure that every week, regardless of how busy I may or may not be, that I will be able to write something down for the fans of WOW Insider. And it’s a dream come true for me.

What is it about gratitude that stands out to me? Well, it takes me back to my past life as an athlete. When you spend your life as an athlete, you are always grateful for your health and the ability to walk, run and function in everyday life. It’s almost like second nature now. When I wake up every day, my first thoughts are things that I am grateful for.

I think it is important to remember what you are grateful for. After all, it’s the small things in life that make us who we are and the people we are around.

My three biggest sources of gratitude came from my early years in life: family, friends and my love for video games. These three things played a huge role in who I am as a person today. They shaped me and they made me appreciate who I am today. Most of all, I am grateful for my family. That is why I always strive to hang out with my family as much as possible.

Living the Gratitude Lifestyle

So how can you find your own inspiration? It’s always there, it may be hard to grasp at times and sometimes it may be hard to find but I have some tips that will help you find your sources of inspiration when you need them most. Here are some things I personally do that helps me in my day-to-day life.

Identify what you are grateful for every day . Think about the people and things that you are grateful for. Ask yourself, "What am I grateful for?" More often than not, it is something small, like a meal or a conversation. Just make sure you ask yourself, "What am I grateful for?"

Just make sure you ask yourself, "What am I grateful for?" Make gratitude a way of life . Think about the things that you do to show your appreciation to others throughout the day. Do you tell your girlfriend how much you love her when you wake up in the morning? Do you thank your kids for cleaning up after dinner? Do you thank your friends for taking time out of their busy schedules to hang out with you? I am sure there are some things that stand out to you that can help make this a way of life.

When somebody asks about how your day is going, reply with something that makes them happy. This can be almost anything, but try to do it without being too cheesy or corny. It is always nice to make someone feel good and it will make you feel good in the long run also.
