Travel Insurance – Is It Necessary For A UK-Based Holiday?

If you are planning a trip to the UK from abroad, whether it be for business or leisure, then you need to be aware that different countries have different laws. One of those laws is health and travel insurance. UK-based holidays can quickly become much more expensive if you don't have a valid policy in place.

But how do you know if your current plan is enough? Here are some considerations to help answer that question.

1) Make sure your insurance company has a UK-based contact number on their website so that in case of an emergency, they can be contacted at any time of day or night.

2) Make sure they offer insurance for UK and non-UK citizens, as well as the European countries that would be most likely to contact you for a consultation.

3) Choose a company that offers "any medical," meaning they will cover all health issues, not just accidents or illnesses.

4) Make sure you are part of the EHIC program, which provides medical services to those who do not have a European Health Insurance card (EHIC). Remember to bring your passport with you when you go on holiday!
 5) Make sure your policy covers things like cancellation, lost baggage and travel documents and trip interruption.

6) Check whether your personal belongings are covered in the event of a fire, robbery, flood or theft.

7) Find out if you will be covered with a business trip to the UK and if there is a limit on the amount of coverage you can receive.

8) Do they offer support for non-EU citizens? Can you get help in case of emergencies? Will they provide refunds for those who have paid out of pocket in emergency situations? These are all important questions to ask before signing up.

9) Check that your policy can be used for people over 65 years old. It is also important to check that it covers treatments in private hospitals.

10) Do they offer emergency medical evacuation services for those in need? It is also important to find out what is included in the evacuation costs.

11) You can also have more information about your policy by requesting a copy of their terms and conditions. Request it within three days of signing up.
