 Why You Need Disability Insurance

If you’ve ever seen the movie The Pursuit of Happyness, then you’re familiar with the story of Chris Gardner, a young and ambitious dad determined to provide for his family. When he was down on his luck, he never gave up - instead choosing to turn lemons into lemonade. And while this movie may be inspiring, it also isn't realistic enough for people with disabilities to survive without disability insurance.

That's why I've decided to write an article about disability insurance - what it entails, when you should get it and why you need it! Just read on for more info.

So what is disability insurance?

Disability insurance is a type of insurance that can help provide income if you have an illness or injury that prevents you from working. And while this type of insurance isn’t something we like to think about, it's best to be prepared for the worst and disabled people are sometimes given less opportunities in the workplace than people without disabilities.

This is because employers might assume they can’t do certain jobs because they’re disabled. That's why it’s important to stay productive and educated and take on tasks that don't require physical labor.

Another thing to keep in mind is that the job market isn't always fair. If you're disabled, then you might not be able to find a job that's a match for your experience and skill set. But disability insurance can help bridge that gap when you don’t have the funds to get unemployment or another type of work insurance until things start picking up again.

So how much is disability insurance?

There are four types of disability insurance: short-term (4 weeks), long-term (12 weeks), temporary total (24 weeks) and permanent total (36 or 60 weeks). In addition, many states also offer Disability Insurance Benefits (DIB) which can last for up to 18 months.

That being said, it's best to talk to a lender about what type of disability insurance is best for you. They'll be able to tell you how much money they're willing to loan out and whether or not you qualify for loan repayment programs. Plus, they'll be able to tell you the amount of time that the insurance will cover you for and when it would end.

Now if only all disability insurance was that easy! But I guess that's what I get for writing about such a boring subject...

Until next time! Have a great day!
