Building resilience and adaptability
The power of education
According to the United Nations, learning should be a basic human right. Education can create jobs and boost economies, even in tough times. It is the best way to improve society's quality of life and deal with worldwide problems like poverty, but it has not always been that way. Just fifty years ago, people thought our world would be better off without education. Luckily for us all, they were wrong! Educating children has proven time and time again to make them happier overall - physically healthier, more successful in school and at work, less likely to get sick or die from disease - even less likely to go on crime sprees. Totally worth it.
Recently, we have seen a lot of people lose everything as a result of the global economic recession. They have been forced to move or change jobs, some have even lost their homes. We call this process "economic climate change" – or in other words “climate change due to human activities” - and it is affecting everyone on our planet, whether or not we accept it. It is not always easy to adapt to new situations in life. Learning how to deal with changes in our environment is one of the best forms of education anyone can receive before entering the world out there.
Humans have developed and changed throughout the years. Our ancestors are known to have lived in caves where they had to hunt for food. Nowadays, children go to school, or even just daycare, because once they're old enough they can go out in society and get a job. There is no need to depend on hunting and farming anymore - we have advanced enough to be able to make our own food and find jobs without much difficulty. Besides that, we also have better technology- even though there are people who still don't have access to it or can't afford it, most people enjoy the benefits of modern technology on a daily basis.
In our time, there are some people who still hunt for food and live in nature. There are also those who don't have access to technology, live in tents or can barely afford proper clothing. These people suffer from a lack of education and a lower quality of life. But because the world is constantly changing, we can't deny the importance of education since it has proven to be a valuable asset to life.
We need to improve our quality of life if we want to survive as a species on this planet and not just see ourselves go extinct at some point. People who don't have access to proper education or even just a basic education, and are living in conditions that are detrimental to their health, well-being and quality of life, can't be blamed for it. We must learn from our mistakes so we can benefit from them.
So what's the solution? Most people think getting more education is what could make the difference when it comes to improving conditions and improving quality of life. That's just not the truth though! Sure there are professions that require a higher level of education, and some skills you learn in school will help you build a better future, but it doesn't always work like this.
Being well-educated doesn't always mean you'll be happy all the time. For example, new graduates are often faced with a job market that is even tougher than what they are used to. Even if they do find work, sometimes they have too little experience and can't afford to change their career path or go back to school for more training. And because of all this, they fail at adapting and are forced to deal with the unfortunate consequences. In fact, their level of education doesn't determine whether or not they are successful in life.
That’s why we need to look for other alternative solutions that have been proven to be effective. We need to offer people support and guidance so they can get back on their feet and successfully adapt!
One of the most cost-effective ways to do this is by building resilience . Resilience is the ability of a system, community or person to adapt well as a result of previous experiences. It is an individual's ability to bounce back in times of crisis and overcome tough challenges. It is the ability of a city, country or civilization to identify potential risks and quickly find ways to overcome them.
Resilience is what makes a person or a community capable of adjusting to change and taking full advantage of opportunities when they arise. In other words, it's what allows us to adapt successfully.
So how can we help people build resilience? Well, there are some things you can do right now that might help:
1. Build awareness This is really important because if we don't even know how to help ourselves, let alone others, it is impossible for us to generate results.
2. Promote networking Helping each other out and sharing resources and ideas can be more valuable than we think.
3. Encourage learning Learning something new can come in handy, whether it's a new skill or a new way of thinking.
4. Promote active and healthy lifestyles This means providing opportunities to get in touch with nature and be more physically active on a daily basis. It also means having the ability to easily access nutritious food that's good for our health and well-being.
Resilience is truly important because without it, life would be much tougher for everyone. All the people who are going through a tough time right now can look forward to better days ahead, if only they have the drive and motivation, as well as adequate support and guidance from people who care about them.
