But there are a lot of things that don't match up. So I personally started digging through various pieces of evidence that have been presented about this new product called "Gold".

I am going to show you what I found within this article. I will share some of the most surprising things that I discovered and let you decide for yourself if this is indeed a new "game changing EDC", or if it's going to be another big scam like so many others before it. But first, let's look at the main points of what is being presented about Gold.

If you're not familiar with EDC's and would like to learn more, feel free to take a look at our What is an Escape Belt section here: http://edccollective.com/what-is-an-escape-belt/

At the end of the day, you want to make sure you know exactly what you're getting yourself into before buying anything like this. Some of these companies are taking advantage because they know how big of a market it is and how desperate people can be.

We don't want you to fall into that trap. So let's get right into it…

The Main Points Overlooking The Gold EDC Gold is designed to be super effective for those who are looking for ways to protect their belongings and loved ones in emergency situations. It seems like it can be used in a variety of different ways and stay effective no matter what. It's multi-functional and uses a new patented technology to keep you safe.

The only real downfall that I found in this product is the design. To me, it doesn't seem like they are all that well thought out. If you're looking for something that looks professional, this may not be for you. It doesn't seem to be well engineered at all and it's weird to me how they couldn't just make a belt that has a built in buckle of some kind.

To start off, they're saying it can serve as a carabiner, cordage, and even an emergency blade. From what I can tell, it's not designed to be a carabiner or cordage and it looks like only one side of the belt is designed to be used as a knife. Definitely not an effective design.

So let's take a look at the "unique" features that they have stated on their website. The first one they show is the ability to keep your things safe with the patented collar. As I'm sure you can tell, that's a really big joke. They have no patents on this product.

From the patent application, it doesn't look like they have anything to be worried about so this will become a moot point once the patent is granted. But for now, let's take a look at some other features to see if we can see anything to show that they are making an effort to design something functional at all.

Next up is the belt itself. Again, I don't believe this is well thought out enough for me to put something like this on my body daily or even in an emergency situation in general. It looks like they're using a bunch of cheap buckles that you would get from Amazon or any other accessories store.

It seems that this was all they could really afford which is why it looks like it's just a bunch of pieces of metal bolted together. In an emergency situation, I really wouldn't want to have to worry about my belt coming out and potentially getting tangled in everything else while I'm trying to get out safely and quickly.

They claim the buckles are made with the highest grade heavy duty steel but who knows if that's true. Another thing that caught my attention is the way they've put the buckles together. They're bolted together with no nuts. If you look closely, you can see there are actually two holes on each side of the buckle but they just made a tube with a bolt that goes through both holes and said, "hey it's metal…"

In addition to all of this, there are several other things that make me uneasy. For examples, there's an emergency whistle included in the package. There's also a knife built into the buckle itself where both sides can be used separately or together.

However, the way that it's designed seems like it could be a safety hazard for the user themselves. It has guards that are supposedly designed to keep you safe from your own knife but from what I can tell in reading the reviews, they seem to be more trouble than they're worth. They're not very effective and they could potentially get caught on something if you were trying to use them in an emergency situation. This is very important because if you have a knife in your belt that you're unable to quickly and effectively use, it then becomes useless and potentially dangerous for yourself.

Now let's take a look at the necklace that comes with this product.

Conclusion:

Here we have our conclusion and the main points that I found most important. First off, the idea behind this product is completely preposterous. There's no way that a company is going to make something like this when they have no patents on it. Their very own patent application doesn't make sense and how can you patent something that doesn't even work as well as a zipper?

On top of all of this, it looks like they're not even making good quality buckles with cheap materials at all. They're using what are basically stickers from your local hardware store and attaching them together with whatever screws they could find.
